Graduate Coursework in Assistive Technology
|
Assistive Technology Partners was awarded a five-year federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education in 2005 to provide graduate-level training to address the shortage of personnel trained to provide assistive technology services to children with low-incidence disabilities. As part of the grant, Assistive Technology Partners is working to develop the first Masters and Doctoral programs in assistive technology at the University of Colorado Denver. Twelve graduate-level students from the fields of education, speech therapy, and occupational and physical therapy are enrolled for each year of the grant. A total of 60 students will be trained over the five years. Each student receives 18 hours in advanced assistive technology training and a $9,000 stipend for their year of study. Student feedback on the coursework has been very positive. One student noted, “ATP has lined up a top-notch set of instructors who present the most current trends, equipment, and resources in the field of assistive technology. The pace is fast and intense. Class work includes lectures, hands-on work with equipment, observations of practitioners with clients, interaction with AT developers, direction from state-level leaders, literature reviews, and research training and projects.” For additional information please use the following links:
